Local 804 has issued a new report documenting growing safety hazards caused by the explosion of e-commerce and last mile delivery and the need for new protections for workers and the public.
This report is split into two parts. The first part is a narrative study that details a vast number of aspects of the industry. The second part is a quantitative study looking at the actual violations of known last-mile vehicles over a five-year period, an estimate of the “e-commerce cohort” of last-mile vehicles and the rate of citations issued to that cohort, and the migration of safety-entailed vehicle citations into the more residential outer boroughs. Accompanying this study is the raw data used to make the calculations.
