Local 804 members joined a rally at City Hall to launch a campaign to win a $30 an hour minimum wage in New York City.

City Council Member Sandy Nurse introduced the “$30 for Our City” legislation alongside small business owners, unions, and community groups.

Local 804 members stood with city officials and community groups, including the Alliance for a Greater New York, Businesses for a Fair Minimum Wage, Make the Road NY, New York Communities for Change and the Worker Justice Project.

The minimum wage in New York City is currently $17 an hour. The legislation would raise the minimum wage in phases with different timelines for small and large employers.

Businesses with more than 500 workers would be required to pay $20 an hour in 2027, $23 in 2028, $26 in 2029 and $30 by 2030.

Starting in 2032, the minimum wage would be $30 for all workers plus a cost-of-living adjustment with annual increases tied to inflation.
