Teamsters, Amazon workers, and labor allies rallied today in New York to support the Delivery Protection Act. General President Sean O’Brien joined the rally to call for an end to Amazon and other delivery services’ subcontractor model.

“When Amazon shut down my DSP, essentially firing every one of us, they gave us less than a day’s notice and did it over text. No company should have that power over workers,” said Latrice Johnson, an Amazon Teamster from the DBK4 facility in Maspeth, Queens. “The Delivery Protection Act is how we are fighting back. This law will make it illegal for Amazon to hide behind a fake third party, let alone fire hundreds of people without any respect for our rights. New York City has the power to change how Amazon treats its workers — the Delivery Protection Act will do it.”

The Delivery Protection Act would require companies to directly employ delivery drivers instead of using third-party subcontractors to drive down wages and undermine union standards. 

It would be a game-changer at Amazon and also UPS Roadie which both use a scam subcontractor model to exploit drivers.

The law would help raise wages, improve working conditions, and stop companies from undercutting standards across the package industry.
